Physical Education is important because it supports students’ physical, mental, social, and emotional development. Research shows that physically active students tend to have better concentration, memory, classroom behavior, and academic success.

Students are encouraged to wear sneakers during physical education class to prevent potential injuries and ensure safety. Boots, sandals and slide ons and shoes without a heel are not preferred.

Everything! Through PE, we look to introduce a wide variety of games, activities and skills that spark student’s interest and promote lifelong physical activity. Classes are designed to improve fitness, skills, teamwork and overall well being. Activities vary depending on the age level.

Students should wear comfortable clothing they can move in. Keep in mind that some classes will be outside (weather permitting).

Easy! Ask your child to show you things they learned in class and do it with them. This could be an exercise, stretch or game. Have them teach a sibling, family member or neighbor. Physical activity can become a family bonding experience.

Elementary school has PE 1 in every 6 school days.
Middle School has PE 1 in every 3 school days.
High School has PE every day for 1 semester.
New Bedford Public Schools and the Phys. Ed department have partnered with the New Bedford Rowing Center. This year, NBPS was 1 of 2 districts nationally to recieve the ErgEd Concept 2 Rowing Grant from the George Pocock Foundation in Seattle, WA.

We are partnering with the New England Patriots to bring NFL Play 60 to our Physical Education classes. This project supports our PE program by providing tools and assessments that help schools measure student fitness levels and improve health-focused PE activities.
