Kindergarten registration is now open for New Bedford resident students who turn 5 on or before August 31, 2026!

Prepare for your child’s registration
- Schedule an appointment.
- Bring your child to the appointment, arriving 10 minutes early.
- Have with you:
- Child’s birth certificate
- Parent/guardian photo ID
- Two proofs of New Bedford address
- Child’s immunization records and latest physical
- Any court or custody documents, if applicable
Sending your child to Kindergarten is a very special time – what can you do to prepare your child for Kindergarten?
- Read together every day!
- Visit your local library, and display the books you read together at home.
- Practice the following skills with your child:
- Asking for help
- Sharing and taking turns
- Following routines and simple directions
- Writing first and last name
- Rote counting to 10, and counting 10 objects
- Identifying colors, shapes, numbers, and letters
- Limit screen time (TV, video games, phone, tablet, etc.) to one hour per weekday and three hours on weekend days
