Grade 6 & 7
Course Title: World Geography and Ancient Civilizations
In the Investigating History courses for Grades 6 and 7, students encounter the cultures, geography, and history of the ancient world beyond North America. These years offer an introduction to early human history and to each settled world region and the multifaceted societies that developed there. As they encounter these global cultures, past and present, students will deepen their ability to ask questions and pursue a historical inquiry; to analyze sources for their usefulness, relevance, and credibility; and to make well-substantiated arguments that support informed action. Ultimately, Investigating History is designed to help students grow as readers and writers, as critical thinkers, and as empowered and engaged members of a diverse global society.
Grade 8
Course Title: Civic Engagement in Our Democracy
Civic Engagement in Our Democracy is a yearlong, eighth-grade civics curriculum that seeks to help students identify what they value, deepen what they understand, and develop what they can do to be self-caring, reciprocal, and self-confident changemakers. The curriculum provides students and teachers with the tools they need to experience deeper civic learning in support of students' emerging civic identities. Students begin the course by creating a story of self, in which they reflect on their values and their identities, and they finish the course with a student-led civics project on an issue in their community.
High School Level
