For our non-Medicare Retirees we are pleased to offer two health insurance options through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts: The Network Blue New England Deduction HMO Plan and the Blue Care Direct Deductible PPO Plan. For our Medicare Retirees we are pleased to offer supplemental coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Medex2 with or without prescription drug coverage. Please see our rates below, along with detailed coverage information and plan highlights for retirees turning 65.

The HMO plan offers in-network coverage only throughout the New England states and requires referrals from a primary care provider to see specialists. Employees enrolling in the HMO Plan are required to select a Primary Care Physician (PCP) at the time of enrollment.

The PPO plan offers access to Blue Cross Blue Shield national network with no referrals for flexible coverage. To be eligible for the PPO plan, plan members must prove that they live or support dependents who live outside of the New England states for more than 6 months of the year. Plan members will need to complete an Annual Residency Affidavit to enroll or continue in the PPO plan.

Once you turn age 65 and are retired, you are required to enroll in Medicare Parts A & B. The City of New Bedford offers supplemental coverage through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts to help retirees maintain comprehensive healthcare coverage alongside Medicare.
