OSP’s Role in Carrying Out NBPS’s Strategic Plan

Guided by the NBPS 2025-2030 Strategic Plan, The Office of School Performance (OSP) supports leaders and educators across the district in their work to improve outcomes for all students by engaging a team of highly knowledgeable content experts within the department, and collaborating across departments in the district. Though our work touches all four Strategic Plan Goals, we place heavy emphasis on igniting learning and empowering educators.

OSP’s Role in Igniting Learning:

The Office of School Performance supports schools, leaders and educators by providing guidance and tools that promote consistent, coherent and equitable learning environments for all learners. This includes support in the adoption and implementation of High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), assessments and implementing instructional models that center student assets while holding everyone to high expectations and providing access to appropriate levels of support when needed. Content, language and application of learning in relevant contexts are all encompassed in our improvement efforts.

OSP’s Role in Empowering Educators:

The Office of School Performance supports educators and leaders by providing guidance and tools that promote consistent, coherent and equitable opportunities for educator development. This includes collaborating with other departments to provide high quality professional development on in-service days, through the district’s Mentoring and Induction Program, and through job-embedded coaching opportunities. In addition, the Office of School Performance promotes educator development and leadership through numerous after-school committees that provide educators with the opportunity to share their expertise and to grow!

High Quality Instructional Materials

NBPS, through the Office of School Performance, has made a commitment to implementing High Quality Curriculum Materials (HQIM). HQIM is a foundational ingredient to providing an equitable learning experience for students. Since 2019, NBPS has engaged representative stakeholders in selecting curricular materials and programs that are best for our students in our context, using an evidence-based process. NBPS’s skillful educators bring learning to life by serving as the bridge between content and context and between students and the program’s materials. Educators do this best when they form strong positive relationships with students, employ an asset-based approach to integrating student experience and hold students accountable to meeting high expectations for learning content, skills and language. The destination is achieved when students learn, communicate, build and perform, at grade level and beyond, in ways that enable them to thrive, living fulfilling enjoyable lives in our dynamic Community, Country and the World!

Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners

NBPS embraces the diversity of our community! Students are humans, each one unique and varying quite a bit from the others around them, in their classroom, school and community. In an effort to address the natural variability among students, The Office of School Performance collaborated with educators across the district to update and revise the District’s Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP) in 2018 and again in 2023. Find the most recent NBPS DCAP here and more information about the Massachusetts General Law Governing DCAPs here.
