Our Special Education Department works in partnership with families, students, teachers, and community providers to ensure that students with disabilities receive the support and instruction they need to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. We believe that collaboration between home and school helps students reach their full potential.

We are committed to creating inclusive and welcoming learning environments where all students feel respected, valued, and connected to their school community. Through high quality instruction, individualized supports, and evidence based practices, we help students build independence, confidence, and self advocacy skills for success in school and beyond graduation. We believe that all students can learn and thrive when provided with the right supports and opportunities.

“Every student, every classroom, learning together and achieving together.”

Our Mission

New Bedford Public Schools will be a leader in closing achievement and opportunity gaps for students with disabilities by affirming that all students, regardless of disability status, can excel academically and achieve their college and career goals. Our mission is to ensure that all students with disabilities succeed by providing inclusive learning environments and equitable access to high-quality instruction that builds knowledge, fosters independence, and prepares students for postsecondary success.

Our Beliefs About Students

We believe that every student can learn, grow, and achieve at high levels when given the right instruction, support, and opportunities.

Our Partnership With Families

We believe families are essential and valued members of the educational team. Strong family–school partnerships help students feel supported and successful.

Our Approach to Support and Inclusion

We believe supports should focus on building skills and helping students become more independent over time. Inclusive learning environments strengthen learning and belonging for all students.
