Check here often for new opportunities! This list is organized by due date and includes any scholarship opportunities that are shared with New Bedford High School staff. This list is not exhaustive, and seniors are encouraged to do their own research for available scholarships. Students who need help searching for scholarships are encouraged to see their school counselor. Additionally, at the end of this list you will find links to Scholarship Guidance Newsletters. 
All members of the NBHS Class of 2023 who are continuing their education after graduation are encouraged to complete the New Bedford High School Scholarship Application, one application that is used for multiple awards. In order to be considered for these awards, applications must be submitted by April 14, 2023.

May Deadlines

Padre Pio Cape Verdean Scholarship: Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded by the Padre Pio Gottin Charities, Inc. Applicants for this award must be a high school senior, of Cape Verdean descent, and have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning. Members of the Padre PioGottin Charities and their immediate family members are not eligible. Applicants are evaluated on their academic standing, community service, and essay submission (choice of three topics). Applicants can be found at and are due by May 15, 2023.

PB&J Foundation Scholarship: Two $1000 awards for students who have experienced personal challenges that may have impacted their academic performance but who have the drive to succeed and plan to attend a two or four year college. June Deadlines
Portuguese American Club of Dartmouth: This award is open to any graduating seniors who plan to attend college. Visit to locate and download the application. Be sure to complete the writing prompt on the second page of the application. Applications are due by June 1, 2023.

Exceptional Nurse Scholarships: Eight scholarships of up to $500 will be awarded by to qualified students with disabilities to continue their education in a nursing education program. Preference is given to undergraduate students. Applicants must demonstrate a serious commitment to the academic study of nursing and career excellence. This scholarship is not renewable and will only be awarded once. Applicants must be students with a documented disability who have applied to, or already been admitted to, a college or university program on a full-time basis. Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship Program: Five hundred scholarships at up to $2,500 each are available to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States. Applicants must have completed high school (or earned a high school equivalency credential) by July 1, 2023, and be enrolled in an associate’s degree, certificate, or diploma program at a not-for-profit post-secondary institution by September that will lead to employment. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need (applicants must either show family income of $55,000 or less OR prove Pell Grant eligibility) and be a United States citizen. Helen Gee Chin Scholarship: The Helen Gee Chin Scholarship Foundation honors the memory of Helen Gee Chin, wife of Sifu Chin of Calvin Chin’s Martial Arts Academy, Inc. Four $2,500 awards are available. It is open to students who plan to enroll full-time as an undergraduate at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university and meet the minimum eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship, five or more years of study in Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu, Wu Shu, or Tai Chi), and a “B” average grade or better. Scholarship recipients are selected based on criteria such as martial arts study and achievement, academic achievement, a written essay, and participation and leadership in community and school activities. Rotary Club of New Bedford Scholarship: The Rotary Club of New Bedford is offering a scholarship to any member of the class of 2023 who are residents of New Bedford and/or graduating from a New Bedford area high school.
