McKinney-Vento Educational Program

The New Bedford Public Schools is committed to supporting students and families while experiencing living challenges to ensure they reach academic, health, social, emotional and behavioral proficiency.

Students meet the definition for McKinney-Vento status if they live:
  • In a shelter, motel or campground
  • On the street
  • In an abandoned building, trailer or other inadequate accommodations
  • Doubled up with a relative due to economic hardship
  • "Couch surfing" at friends' homes
