Early Childhood

altEarly Childhood Philosophy

New Bedford Public Schools provide a safe and positive environment for our “Future Whalers” to learn throughout our many elementary schools no matter the location or size of the school.   Our children ages 3, 4, 5 learn in a rich environment where children are different in their abilities and where they can gain social skills in working and playing with a wide range of other children. The goal of the preschool is to meet children's individual learning needs in the areas of adaptive (self care/person responsibility), personal-social (adult interaction/peer interaction,/social role), communication (receptive/expressive), motor (gross/fine/perceptual), cognitive (attention/ memory/reasoning/ academic skills/perception/concepts), literacy, and math. Educators provide diverse learning opportunities that support a solid foundation of skills to support more advanced learning in life.
