What is MyCAP?
MyCAP is a student-centered, multi-year planning process designed to provide students with ongoing opportunities to plan for their academic, personal/social and career success in high school and beyond.
Who should have a MyCAP?
MyCAP is intended for all students beginning as early as sixth grade and continuing through high school!
What is MEFA Pathway?
MEFA Pathway is an electronic platform that works alongside the MyCAP Process. MEFA Pathway provides a place to organize and record progress related to academic achievement, personal/social skill development, and career development information. NBPS selected MEFA Pathway after exploring many college and career readiness platforms and determined that it best met our needs. At the high school level, MEFA Pathway is integrated with the college application process and its use is essential for students who are applying to colleges and technical schools. MyCAP Roll Out in NBPS
During the 2022-2023 school year, the district created a MyCAP team of educators from all three middle schools. Under the direction of the College and Career Information Coordinator, the team participated in MyCAP training sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and developed a scope and sequence for grade 6 to be launched with the class of 2030 during the 2023-2024 school year.
Alongside the roll out with the class of 2030 during the 2023-2024 school year, a smaller team of educators continued the work and developed a scope and sequence for grade 7. Each year moving forward, a scope and sequence for one additional grade level will be created until there is a MyCAP scope and sequence through grade 12. The class of 2030 will be the first NBPS class to have experienced MyCAP from sixth grade on.
Simultaneously, at New Bedford High School, a MyCAP scope and sequence was developed exclusively for the NBHS Early College program. MyCAP completion is a requirement for students in designated Early College programs in Massachusetts.
