In January 2021, during the depths of the pandemic, Ms. Macedo wrote to Mayor Jon Mitchell, who expressed support, recommending various resources to initiate the project.
“I am thoroughly impressed by the initiative of the students and teachers at Carney Academy to make this spectacular new playground a reality,” Mayor Mitchell said. “They came up with the ideas and made it happen with sheer persistence. Students will now have a first-rate playground they can truly call their own.”
