Coronavirus

LETTER FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT, THOMAS ANDERSON

New Bedford Public Schools will be closed for the remainder of this school year (through June 18, 2020) per order of Governor Charlie Baker (April 21, 2020) closing all Massachusetts schools due to Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

NBPS is in close collaboration with local agencies including Southcoast Health (which includes St. Luke’s Hospital), the City of New Bedford Health Department. We are also following guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Boston Public Health Commission. Please visit their websites in addition to the CDC’s website, for more information.

The NBPS Facilities Team continues a comprehensive sanitizing effort of all classrooms and common spaces. Please remember that the most effective precautions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses are thorough frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding touching your face, and wearing a protective mask while out in public.

Please be assured that the health and well-being of our students and staff are our top priority. This time will be stressful for all and I ask that we all work to stay informed and be empathetic to individual challenges. I remain particularly grateful for the strength and togetherness of this community.
